How to Re-purpose a Chandelier

Chic,Thrifty,D.I.Y ideas for decorating a chandelier, using oyster shells and crystals

Shimmer, Glam, Sparkle are some of the terms that come to mind when we hear the word chandelier. Needless to mention that a chandelier can take numerous shapes and forms, there is something special it brings to the overall space in which it resides.  Many times we shop around for that perfect chandelier and just when we think we found it, it simply doesn't quite fit in with every seasonal decor scheme you may chose for a particular space in your home.

So whats next !
You are caught between a rock and a hard place per say and the thought of making the perfect choice becomes a daunting task.
With this DIY idea we believe that we have taken much of the thought process out of the best choice possible. For this tutorial we chose a basic bronze metal chandelier with six arms. You can either browse the world wide web and find a online store such as this one or visit a local thrift shop. This chandelier is pretty generic and can be found at almost any salvage and thrifty local shops. You may also purchase any new inexpensive or expensive model as your wallet permits, that suits your taste and turn it into a work of art.

Below we will show you a chic yet thrifty idea on How to Re-purpose a Chandelier by turning it into a Glam work of art that would be timeless in season and out of season.

Here is a can of high gloss spray paint we picked up from the local home improvement store, used to turn this traditional looking chandelier into a seamless Glam and timeless work of art. Please do yourself a favor and do not  go cheap on the spray can. It will make a lot of difference in the overall outcome by sticking to a quality paint.

In our reveal of this How to re-purpose a chandelier tutorial we also added this over-sized medallion also purchased at the local home department store. This will create a subtle focal point on the ceiling. It's best if it is kept the same color of your ceiling(whichever it may be) for a lighter feel. We will use some liquid nail and two small masonry screws to attach this baby to the ceiling.

We also used some miniature chandelier shades from Lowe's to add interest and texture to the overall look. This really did the trick

In this Image you can see the sea shell out of focus hanging from one of the arm dish of the chandelier. We attached the crystal charms by drilling a tiny whole into the shell. These seashells and or clam shells are about 3 to 4.5 inches in length, and are a spectacle to watch.

Here you can now see the shell in focus hanging like a beautiful raindrop. As if this wasn't already gorgeous enough, we added on the opposite sides a beautiful crystal raindrop pendant we purchased online at Crystal Prism World [Source: Non-Sponsored]. this is one of our favorite sites for everything sparkly. Is this even a word! well I'll just use it anyway.

In this Image we added a strand of shells along the arms of the chandelier. This really took it up a notch and gave it a WOW ! effect. Or you may decide keep it more subtle and omit the strand of shells. The possibilities and choices are endless and completely YOURS.

Just had to add another BONUS Pic just for "you" !

These photos currently added to show the versatility of this chandelier. The strand of shells were removed and replaced with some crystal garlands and an oversized 80mm crystal facet ball.

The change was done to complement the Winter Seasonal decor in the space.

Oh Alright..Alright. We see you next time ;0)

Conclusion: Well there you have it. In this tutorial we truly believed that we did not have to sacrifice that sparkling glam of crystals for this design. This is a great example of how you can marry two design/decor concepts and make it work perfectly by complementing each other. By keeping the chandelier light in color it kept the continuous flow of the living space without letting your eyes stare at one bold focal spot on the roof.
